Swiss Timing’s virtual runner technology has enjoyed enormous success. The technology provides a graphic representation of the leading athlete’s position compared to that of any other selected competitor. The virtual runner has been particularly well received in swimming and alpine skiing events and can easily be adapted to other sports.

The virtual runner offers a more visually dramatic way to evaluate an athlete’s position. In the past, for example, an indicator below a skier’s elapsed time showed the time ahead of or behind the current leader. Now, with the best performer’s position represented graphically on screen, viewers can see immediately where another competitor is relatively positioned.
