Swiss Timing - Figure Skating

Both sport and art, Figure Skating takes place on ice or on a hard surface known as synthetic ice. Widely popular across North America, Europe, and Asia, it stands out as a discipline with a particularly strong female fan base. Swiss Timing provides integrated systems that capture all relevant performance data in an intuitive and efficient way—enabling judges to focus fully on the artistry, precision, and grace of each performance.

The former judging system for Figure Skating was set up in 1905, and coined 6.0. Widely criticized, notably during a scandal at the Olympic Winter Games Salt Lake City 2002, a new judging system called CoP (Code of Points), developed by Swiss Timing in close cooperation with ISU, was set up for all ISU competitions from 2004 to 2009, and used at the 2006 Olympic Games in Turin. In constant use since then, the system continued to evolve and effectively prevented all score manipulation. During the Olympic Winter Game Sochi 2014, Swiss Timing broadcast scores on television in real time as the judges gave their decisions.

With the introduction of our computer vision-based tracking technology at the Olympic Winter Games Beijing 2022, the capture of jump elements has been taken to a new level. Fascinating parameters such as height, air time, and jump length bring viewers even closer to the athletes' incredible performances.

Swiss Timing uses a variety of different means to broadcast results. There is, of course, the handling of judges' scores, the printing of all results and other statistics, and the scoreboards for both the public and the athletes. Each TV or radio commentator has an MIS (Media Information System) screen that provides direct and permanent access to all results. The same results are broadcast live on the internet.
